“Purpose is really just to have fun, nothing too serious,” Damian shares, emphasizing the need for a different perspective. He believes that while there are some solid artists currently, there’s a lack of the “fun factor” compared to previous generations.
Damian, who’s been in the scene for about five years (on and off), has had almost half a million plays on his tracks “Duff” and “Revenge.” He counts Mac Miller as an early inspiration, as Miller made the dream of pursuing rap seem attainable.
His fresh approach is evident in his favorite tracks, “2am” and “Blah Blah Blah.”
Speaking about “2 AM,” he recalls,
“I was just working on melodies one night, and when this beat came up, I freestyled the first two lines and caught the melody first try. I knew I had something.”
Released on August 18th and produced by Ross Gossage, the song mirrors Damian’s philosophy – it’s a feel-good track without the need for deep interpretation.
But what’s even more impressive about Damian is his authenticity and solo journey. “Man, just know that I’m doing this all solo. No one behind the scenes. Just a kid simply having fun with this,” he mentions. His recording process mirrors this attitude – he values the vibe of the room, freestyling everything.
As for future aspirations? Collaborating with legends like Lil Wayne or Drake is on his wish list, but Damian believes only time will tell where his journey will lead. His advice to others? “Enjoy yourself with it. The second you start treating this like work is the second you stop caring.”
