Drake and michael at the all white party

Michael Rubin revealed that he gave the DJ at his Fourth of July party explicit instructions not to play Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ in front of Drake.

On The Breakfast Club, Michael Rubin reminisced about his lavish all-white party in the Hamptons, attended by A-listers like Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tom Brady. The conversation turned to whether Kendrick Lamar’s diss track ‘Not Like Us’ was played, given Drake’s surprise appearance and the song’s massive popularity.

Rubin disclosed that he deliberately excluded ‘Not Like Us’ from the party playlist, considering his close friendship with Drake and not wanting to put him in an uncomfortable situation.

Rubin said “It was true, I just didn’t think it was appropriate, so I said, ‘Hey, let’s not play anyone’s music that’s feuding with anyone here.’ That was a me decision. I just thought it wasn’t the appropriate thing to do.”

A photo of Rubin and Drake together at the all-white party sparked fan speculation, with many joking that Kendrick’s diss tracks had left Drake looking drained. However, Rubin countered that Drake was actually enjoying himself immensely.

“You have to be built for social media, you got to be tough, you have to take shit from people, Look, Drake is an iconic artist that we all have tremendous respect for. What I said to Drake and I really believe this, this is a great test for him. You can’t get to where he’s got to and not have people coming for you.” Said Rubin.

He also added “I sleep with one eye open. I know right now we have three businesses. People are coming for me in every business every day, and that’s part of with success comes more competition, more hatred, and you know the best people show why they’re the best, and if you’re not the best, you crack and you fall apart. So I think this is a great test for him. I think he’s going to come out with lots of incredible music.”

Drake’s past actions suggest he wouldn’t have been fazed by ‘Not Like Us’ being played, as he previously referenced the song in an Instagram Story post, showing he’s unfazed by Kendrick’s lyrics. “Sometimes you gotta pop out,” Drizzy wrote alongside the clip, a reference to the line “Sometimes you gotta pop out and show n****s.”
