Rich Homie Quan dies at 34

The Atlanta-born rapper as per a report from TMZ is dead. On Thursday, the news outlet reported that they had verified Quan’s passing through his family’s representatives and Fulton County officials. According to the report, Quan passed away at the age of 34 in his Atlanta home, with no cause of death disclosed.

Dequantes Devontay Lamar, aka Quan, rose to fame with his 2013 hit single “Type of Way”, which reached No. 50 on the Hot 100 chart. However, Quan had already established himself with two mixtapes, 2012’s I Go in on Every Song and Still Goin In, the latter of which was re-released as a Reloaded edition in 2013, paving the way for “Type of Way”‘s success. The song’s popularity was further boosted by a remix featuring Jeezy and Meek Mill.

Quan’s debut studio album, Rich as in Spirit, was released in 2018 through Motown, featuring only one guest appearance by Rick Ross on “Think About It”. Quan was also a key member of the Cash Money supergroup Rich Gang, alongside Young Thug, with whom he collaborated on multiple occasions, including Travis Scott’s “Mamacita” and Gucci Mane’s “Chasin Paper”. Notably, Quan’s name was recently mentioned in court during Young Thug’s ongoing YSL RICO trial in Georgia, just this week.

This summer, Quan teamed up with 2 Chainz for the single “Ah’chi”, which he first teased during his live set at the Gazebo Festival in Louisville, just before its official release in July.

“Remember me as an original. As [an] artist who did it his way. Remember me as a hard kid from Atlanta with a dream, who believed in himself and bettered himself — and won,” he was quoted on how he wants to be remembered in an interview with revolt.

Thursday’s devastating news sparked an immediate and widespread response, with numerous fans and fellow artists rushing to pay their respects to the gifted 34-year-old, whose passing left a profound sense of loss and sorrow.
